Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)

The UDHR is over 50 years old, and still isn't being respected by 'free' countries like the USA!

Back in 1948, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

The following is taken from the EPIC Alert 5.19:

Two provisions of the UDHR are of particular importance to the Internet community.  Fifty years ago the drafters of the Universal Declaration recognized that the protection of privacy and the freedom of expression are essential rights that all governments must respect.

  Article 12 states:

No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honor and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks.

  Article 19 says:

Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person (Article 3);   no one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile (Article 9);   everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive, and impart information and ideas through any media regardless of frontiers (Article 19); and everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association (Article 20).
